Packing for a holiday is usually something we all know and dread…
We can spend days on end procrastinating that we are left packing last-minute in a frenzied rush!
More often than not, you always forget something important and only realise once you have both feet firmly out the door!
But you don’t always have to leave the house with the awful feeling that you have left something behind…
Because here is the ultimate holiday packing checklist!
1. The Necessities
The following items are the things that you should prioritise before anything else, as you will not be going anywhere without them!
I would also strongly recommend investing in a good travel wallet to store the majority of these things. Since airlines now give the option of E-boarding passes, the idea of a travel wallet may seem old school. Nevertheless, it is still important to keep all of your necessary travel documents, credit/ debit cards, and your passport stored in one place. This way, you are less likely to misplace anything and will actually make it to your holiday destination!
Boarding pass and information
Credit/ debit card
Accomodation booking confirmations
Lock and key for suitcase
2. Toiletries & Maintenance
Be sure to pack all of your everyday toiletries and maintenance products to keep yourself looking and feeling holiday fresh throughout your trip!
It is important to bear in mind that all liquids in your hand luggage have to be within 100ml, so ensure that you have bought travel-friendly sizes only. This will also free up some extra luggage space and weight so that you can save it for other essentials.
If you are on a hand luggage only flight, you should get into the habit of packing your liquids in a reachable area of your suitcase. This is so that you can avoid being that person who is always faffing about in the line at security. (guilty!)
Make sure that you have tightened all of the lids on your liquids as much as possible to avoid any spillages. You probably want to avoid getting bright blue toothpaste smeared all over your new shirt before you even got a chance to wear it.
Nonetheless, you can always skip the toiletry terrors completely and buy the essentials when you are there. It’s entirely up to you!
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Face and body cream
Shampoo and conditioner
3. Clothing & Shoes
So, if you’re anything like me, you have a tendency of bringing your whole wardrobe on holiday with you…
A lot of us make this mistake time and time again, and it usually ends up that 50% of our whole suitcase is left unworn.
So why not ditch the extra baggage, and pack smarter? Take outfits that you can transition from day to night and be realistic about what you will and won’t get a chance to wear!
Oh, and before I forget, make sure you take advantage of all of the space available and try rolling socks and underwear in your shoes. (It works every time!)
Comfortable shoes (trainers)
You should not just assume that your hotel will come jam-packed with everything that you need…
It is probably a good idea to check with your hotel/ accommodation beforehand before you decide to leave something important behind!
These are just a few holiday extras that could make your holiday even more enjoyable and help it run more smoothly.
For example, if you are going on a family holiday and are travelling with young children, you may want to think about bringing some games to keep them entertained. This way, you can take a much-needed nap the plane knowing that they are occupied!
First aid kit
Insect/ mosquito repellent
Travel sickness tablets
Snacks for the plane
Mini sewing kit
Plastic bags (laundry)
